How To Remove John Deere PTO Shaft Cover

The PTO axle on the assembled John Deere tractor is indeed an interesting puzzle. Here are some tips for solving the PTO shaft conundrum. Part of the assembly process for augers purchased through ever-power is to connect the implement end of the PTO shaft to a 40 hp gear reducer. All modern PTO shafts have excellent safety guards, there is one problem with the guards, they can make people wonder how to remove them! What’s worse is how to reassemble, which is sometimes a difficult problem. Below I will explain in detail how to install and remove the PTO shaft
Assemble the PTO shaft to the gearbox

One of the steps in assembling a PTO auger (post-hole excavator) is to connect the PTO shaft to the gearbox. To do this, you must somehow access theU-jointhidden by the very extended shroud on the tool end of the PTO shaft.
Release the locking pin of the PTO Shaft

When looking at the pin along the shaft, it is obvious that there is a screwdriver slot in the pin. The holes where the pins are located are slight “D” shaped. So now that you’ve rotated the pin, hopefully in the right direction, you can slide a thin screwdriver into the slot “above” the pin and pry the pin back as it now slides easily through the “D” hole .
I show the pin removed so you can see it’s the pin. All that is required is to retract the pins. Remember to push it back and turn the screwdriver 180 degrees to “lock” it when reassembling the shaft cone. This pin can easily fall out!
With the “locking pin” retracted, you can now fully rotate the shaft cone so that the three slots line up with the white-collar piece protruding from the shaft.
The PTO collar unlocked is now shown in the fully unlocked position with the white label aligned with the shaft taper slot. You must extend the PTO shaft so that there is room to slide the yellow collar along with the shaft cone down the shaft. Now on to the next mystery, reassembly
Reassemble the shaft

To reassemble the shaft, I stood it upright, squeezed the collar into the shaft slot, and now I can slide the yellow shaft cone and collar back into place! This can be quite difficult in areas where you have to make the axis work almost horizontally. Obviously, you can also remove the shaft on the PTO end but that would add more work
Lock the PTO cone

With the shaft cone sliding back onto the shaft body, all I had to do was twist the shaft cone to lock it.
轴动力输出联锁检验黄港美国专利商标局有限公司ne, and collar. It’s an access port, but it’s also an alignment aid. When you have rotated the shaft cone so that the two holes are perfectly aligned, you can slide the “locking pin” back into its locked position, don’t forget to turn the “D” of the pin 180 degrees so the pin doesn’t fall out.
PTO shaft grease fittings

You can see the grease nipple on the yellow collar (right) in the photo above. You must periodically lubricate these joints on both ends of the shaft. Occasionally there will be a plastic mold flash that can block this nozzle opening. Now is the perfect time to clean it up and verify that the shaft is lubricated. Check the shaft “U” joint grease. There’s always a chance they’ll dry out the “U” joint.
